What Is Brew Pressure?
Brew pressure is the pressure in the brewing circuit while water passes through the coffee puck.
Around 9 bar is a common reference for espresso machines, but the actual target depends on the machine design and brew settings.
This value is not the same as the maximum pressure shown on a pump datasheet.
A pump may reach a higher maximum pressure, while the machine uses an OPV or bypass valve to control the pressure at the brew group.

Why Does Brew Pressure Change?

Maximum pump pressure is normally measured under a different condition from normal extraction.
Espresso brewing needs:
pressure + water flow
at the same time.
A pump may reach high pressure when the outlet is almost closed, but its available flow can be much lower at that point.
So the correct question is not:
How many bar can the pump reach?
It is:
How much flow can the pump provide at the required brew pressure?

During machine testing, measure both values under the actual brew condition.

If pressure reaches the target but flow is too low, the machine still has a water-delivery problem.
If flow is sufficient but pressure cannot be maintained, check the pump, valve and restriction in the brew circuit.

Check the Water Path

Check for:

● loose fittings,
● empty tank,

Air entering the suction line can make pressure build slowly or fluctuate.

A changed setting, dirt or wear can affect brew pressure even when the pump is working correctly.
3、Tubing and Connectors
Inspect tubing for:
